Regatta Samui 2009: June 1 – 6th

On the 1st of June the Sawadee.com Samui Regatta starts at 10.oo o’clock of Chaweng Beach in the east of Samui. During the 5 Racing days sailing yachts and sailing boats of the Racing Class, Premier Class, IRC, Bare Boat charter Class, Sport boats and Multihull Calss will compete on this Regatta. Brief History
-regatta was founded in 2001
-just 11 boats started the first year
-by the 3rd year the regatta had achieved International status attracting a number of boats from overseas
-cemented its importance to the Asian Yachting Grand Prix series.
-regatta was purchased in late 2007 and management of the regatta was outsourced to MobyElite
-Samui island based business Web Sawadee came on as a principle partner for 3 years
- In 2008 there were over 300 participants from over 20 countries.
- The event generated over 13 million bahts worth of media coverage.
- It generated nearly 100 million baht for the Thai economy
- in 2009 we have received well over 1 million bahts worth of positive PR coverage.
Objectives
The Regatta has 3 key objectives.
1. Increase tourists to the island of Koh Samui.
2. Increase awareness and participation in Sailing in Asia.
3. Support youth education and sporting activities on the island.
THE TEAM
Callum Laing is the Chairman of the Sawadee.com Regatta 2009, Samui. Callum became Chairman of the Samui Regatta in early 2008 and the Sawadee.com Regatta in 2009 will be his second as Chair.
MobyElite Sports Events Division Manager – Siobhan Kennedy As the newly-appointed manager of MobyElite’s Sports Events division, Siobhan’s responsibilities include running the 2009 Koh Samui International Sailing Regatta.
General Manager, Sawadee.com Regatta Samui – Francesco Brancaccio Frankie started his sailing days at Caprera sailing school and been sailing ever since.
Organising Committee, Promotions – Linda Cartilidge Linda has been living on Koh Samui since 2004 and involved in many of the island’s charitable and volunteer efforts.
